Quantitative Social Sciences Initiative (QSSI)

The Quantitative Social Sciences Initiative (QSSI) is one of ten UC-Davis campus pre-proposals selected in June 1998 to be developed into a full proposal. As a Stage 2 initiative the full proposal is to reach the Provost's Office by June 15, 1999. The Committee for the QSSI sent its final report to the convening dean, Dean Sheffrin, on March 31 1999.

This initiative proposes addition of faculty positions to enhance research in the social sciences that uses quantitative methods and to provide the undergraduate and graduate coursework in quantitative methods specifically required by the social sciences.  It also proposes the possible creation of a Center to facilitate, coordinate and promote quantitative research in the social sciences at UC-Davis. Dean Sheffrin (DSS) is the convening dean in preparing this proposal, working with Deans Laub (Engineering), Schneeman (CAES), and Rock (MPS).

The Chair of the Committee on QSSI is Prof. Kevin Hoover, Department of Economics.
To encourage input from the campus, relevant information will be posted at this web-site.
